Midweek Thoughts

Message: Pentecost

Scripture: Ezekiel 37:1-14 and Acts 2:1-21

Remember to wear red this Sunday for Pentecost

Midweek Thoughts:

Apart from the children’s song “Them Bones” stating “Them Bone them bones them dry bones Ezekiel connected them dry bones now hear the word of the Lord,” the story of the dry bones in Ezekiel can seem strange if not down right creepy.

God orders the prophet Ezekiel to command the dry bones to reconnect, to band together with sinews, muscles, flesh, and skin.  But that was not all.  Ezekiel called to breathe life and breathe into these bones.  Or to put it another way to breathe the Holy Spirit’s ever living soul into each set of these bones.  This all seems like something we would see in an action flick, amazing and yet almost unbelievable.

As we approach Pentecost we can forget that God works this way through the Holy Spirit.  God works through the chaos and the confusion. God breathes life into bones that seem lifeless. The Holy Spirit directs all of the action and it is amazing. It also is almost unbelievable until we look back at that time and see what was really happening.

Friends hear the good news.  Jesus Christ is living, breathing, and moving in our congregation in a new way through the body of Christ. It may take our breathe away in the moment but if we listen to where the Holy Spirit leads us in the midst we may be surprised at where God is taking us next. We may just see some dry bones breathe life when just a moment before they were lifeless.

Marion Medical Mission: Mission Meal following worship

Mission Meal:

Sunday May 31st after church, we will be hearing from Tom Logan of Marion Medical Mission to help build wells for clean water in Malawi.  Mike Richardson and Blake Smith plan on going on the mission trip in 2016. The sumptuous meal costs what you would spend if you were to go out for lunch. What you put in the basket at the head of the serving line goes totally to Mission and will help these rascals get to Africa!

Community Garden:

The Mission team is in the midst of choosing and planting produce and flowers in our new community garden in the newly finished raised flower beds in the back of the church.  If you are hoping to get your hands dirty and grow something contact Tom Ellison at martomellison@frontier.com or (618)435-4107.
