Welcome to First Presbyterian Church of Mount Vernon, IL!

Scripture: Roman 4:13-25 / Gen 17:1-7, 15-16

Message: “Abraham: Number the Stars”

Midweek Thoughts:

What is Sabbath?  In a world where we are moving 100 miles per hour we sometimes forget to stop.  The Ten Commandments (one of God’s covenants) ask us to keep the Sabbath day holy.

This past week as we had to put our own worship on hold because of the snow it helped me consider my own Sabbath practices throughout Lent.  The adult Sunday school class is keeping personal journals to reflect on where God is at work in our daily lives.  For me it has helped me pause weekly to consider how God is working in my life, in our congregation, in our community, and in my family.  It has helped me pause and consider how to keep the Sabbath day holy.

How are you keeping the Sabbath day holy?  Last week did you stop and spend some time with God in prayer?  Did you spend time with your family reflecting on God’s creation? Are you reflecting how God is working and moving in your own life?

Christ's Blessings, Rev. Rachel Helgeson

Things to Notice in Worship: Have you noticed that there are a few things that look different in our worship space?  Thank you to the worship team for creating a reflective Lenten worship space.  Things to notice include the stones that will be placed in center aisle reaching us towards holy week.  Also we thank Ron Gajewski for creating the Lenten cross that we will blow a candle out each Sunday as we near Holy Week.  Continue to watch reflect on the symbolism of our worship space. May it open your heart and mind to a closer faith walk with God.
