Rev. Rachel Helgeson will be leading our worship service Sunday.
Message title: “Christ in the Breadline”
Scripture: Psalm 100, Matt 25:31-46
What does it mean to be a King? The closest I can even fathom of royalty is looking across the pond at England and their current ruler is a Queen. Yet this Sunday we will celebrate Christ the King Sunday. It’s the last Sunday of our liturgical before we prepare for Christmas. We celebrate who Jesus was here on earth – fully human and fully divine. We also recognize that Christ was a different type of king than the ones portrayed in the movies. Jesus was a servant leader. He stood in the breadlines with those who were downtrodden.
As we prepare for Thanksgiving and then Christmas let us think about how we can emulate this sort of leadership, this servant leadership. How can we stand with others in the breadline? What are we thankful for and what can we share with others?
There are certainly a lot of opportunities to share this season. And I hope if you haven’t turned in your pledge card yet to consider how you can share in the mission of FPC Mt Vernon in our community. I hope you will consider sharing with other opportunities that are highlighted below in mission, fellowship, and spiritual nurture. Christ is redefining what it means to be a king. Can we follow?
